St. Paddy's Day Disappointments

Hi all! Again I apologize for my absence. Our house once again has been full to the brim with visitors, all of whom we loved having! We're still trying to get everything back in order and get ourselves back into a normal routine though. The weather has been so amazing here the past few days that I've spent most of them out at the beach or on a boat and have acquired a horrid sunburn (yeah...I may have forgot my sunscreen my first day out). I tried a Pinterest find on healing sunburns by dabbing the affected skin with a washcloth soaked with black tea and letting it sit on your skin overnight. While it provided some short-term relief from the pain, it definitely didn't 'cure' my sunburn!

Anyway, on to today.

I've spent all day trying to get into the St. Paddy's Day spirit. It just isn't happening. To be honest, I just don't understand the holiday. While I do know the history behind it and believe it is something worth celebrating for those effected by it or those who take its true meaning to heart, it just has no relevance in my life. The way I see it, St. Patrick's day is just a day for all those of Irish heritage (of which I am) to live up to the stereotypes that they protest against for the other 364 days of the year and for those who aren't to do it anyway.

So today I find myself at home alone, as my husband is working all day, forcing myself to listen to Irish pub songs (which I very much enjoy any day of the year!) and wear green just because everyone else seems to think it's a big deal. I feel like a kid that got nothing for Christmas. All this hype about a big huge let down of a day. Whatever the origins of this day, it has become yet another day for people to justify their gluttony and overindulgence...and wear silly hats and a ridiculous amount of green. Sorry to all you St. Paddy's Day lovers out there, I just can't get into it.
